Easter Seals RGV is partnering with Knapp Community Care Foundation to give families and their children the support they need to start school ready to learn.
Easter Seals will serve the families of Weslaco and the surrounding areas through the implementation of the Parents as Teachers program (PAT). Parent Educators will directly support families through one-on-one home visits focused on the development of their children, while also supporting the family’s well-being through resources and healthy practices.
The program includes developmental testing, and a comprehensive network of resources focused on: prenatal support, connecting families to resources, developing parent/child bond, early education, school readiness, attachment, discipline, safety, parenting behaviors, and problem solving. The PAT program model eligibility is defined as any family, living in the Mid-Valley area, expecting a child or with children up to kindergarten age (age 5 or 6). As an evidence based home visiting model, the PAT program yields tremendous results with families, including: Increased parent knowledge of early childhood development and improved parenting practices.
